We produced a promotional video for Ben Pauling Racing to help promote and show off their new racing yard, based in Naunton in the Cotswolds. We wanted to create something that was visually impactful and beautiful to watch as well as something that looked a bit different to a typical promotional video.

We filmed for a total of 5 mornings at the yard to capture dynamic and varied content. This included using our camera car mounting rig that we were able to use on their gallops.

Aside from producing a main promotional video, the team also provided several social media cuts highlighting the different aspects of the yard, meaning the footage was used to full potential.

Our Process

Step 1

Creative

We had many different concepts when approaching this project but decided to go down a cinematic, narrative piece that would show off the yard to its full potential, with Ben narrating the piece. It was important that the visuals reflected the brand new, state of the art yard and the atmosphere and setting that it sits in.

Step 2

Planning

We wanted to show life at Ben Pauling Racing through different weather conditions so we planned 5 filming mornings at the yard across a couple of months so we had diverse weather conditions. Filming at any racing yard throws up different challenges and it is hard to plan or schedule too much as things can change very quickly. Our approach was to create a loose storyboard and script and collect as much B-roll as possible. We would then work it into a loose cut and finalise it using Ben’s voiceover.

Step 3

Production

Across the 5 mornings we would have a generic shot list that we would need to hit. This would ensure that after the filming was completed we would have a bank of footage to use for editing. We used a small crew of 2 camera operators each morning. On one of the mornings we used our Hydra Tilta car mounting system to track horses on the gallops and schooling ground.

Step 4

Post-Production

Editing took around 1 week to complete. Our editor, Billie, used the storyboards and shots lists to bring the video to life. Using Ben’s voiceover, she was able to create a narrative and flow for the video. After completion of the video we were able to produce smaller bitesize videos for social media. The videos now sit on the website and across social platforms.
