Over the past few years, we have helped The Jockey Club produce a series of videos in the lead up to racing’s biggest events, The Cheltenham Festival and The Grand National.
The concept of the series was developed by our team for The Jockey Club. We produced videos for the series alongside Barry Geraghty & Sprinter Sacre, Joe Tizzard & Native River, Jamie Moore & Sire De Grugy and Leighton Aspell & Pinot De Re.
Our crew used drones, GoPro’s, and an ‘on the ground’ camera team to make sure we captured all the content needed.
All the assets were created by our editing team and used across multiple social media platforms which received great engagement from racing fans.

Our Process

Step 1
Creative
We have produced a series of ‘A Ride With..’ videos for The Jockey Club before so for this project we knew what we needed to achieve. From a creative point of view, the creative is in the storytelling. We work closely with Michael, the presenter, to make sure we hit the main points and draw the most out of the conversation. A lot of the creativity for this type of project is in the post-production.

Step 2
Planning
When we plan these shoots it is important that the crew and riders know the route as you only have one chance to capture the content. Before arriving on location we use maps and location scout the yard in order to plot camera positions and drone flight areas.

Step 3
Production
This is one of the most technical shoots we have done. We used GoPro’s and cameras on the ground to capture footage. We also have a support vehicle that transports kit and camera ops during the interview. We also use a drone to capture footage from the air. Overall there are usually two camera ops, a drone operator, driver and runner. One challenge is the audio for these shoots. We place multiple microphones on the riders and horses to ensure we capture all the dialogue.

Step 4
Post-Production
In the editing process, we sync up all the media sources (visual and audio) and cut around the footage to create the storyline and narrative. Working closely with The Jockey Club, we produced multiple versions of the video to sit across social channels and on-track screens.

“The whole of Cotswold Film were fantastic to work with across all phases of the production of ‘A Ride with Sprinter Sacre’. Their passion for the subject was evident, bringing both technical skill as well as an editorial flair to the feature. The type of production requires a team who can think on their feet & adapt on a shoot, something of which Cotswold Film did extremely well.
We have worked with Pete & Louis since the inception of A Ride With… & they have been critical to its success as well as the continued growth in production quality.”.
